Uchiza procede de la palabra uchina, que hace mención, a una rocopa o flor del árbol de Shapaja. que abunda en la parte baja del caserío de Río Uchiza y el centro poblado de Santa Rosa de Shapaja. Los nativos, pusieron el nombre al río como Uchiza que posteriormente pasaría a ser el nombre del nuevo pueblo, durante la fundación dirigida por el padre fray Manuel Sobreviela.

Uchiza Uchina comes from the word, which referred to a rocopa or Shapaja tree flower. abundant in the lower part of the village of Rio Uchiza and the center town of Santa Rosa de Shapaja. The natives, they named the river as Uchiza that later would become the name of the new town, during the foundation headed by Father Fray Manuel Sobreviela.
